The most common questions CPA firms ask before becoming a partner.

Most of my clients aren't doing R&D — does this partnership still work for me?
Yes — and this is where EBC becomes the partnership's second engine. EBC covers BC investors backing local small businesses and BC business owners raising capital — neither requires any R&D. Combined with SR&ED, these two programs cover the majority of where your typical client portfolio will qualify. Most CPA firms we partner with see EBC referrals account for 30–40% of total commission within the first year. Three supplementary programs (CanExport, RTRI, IDMTC) catch the rest.
What if my client doesn't fit SR&ED or EBC either?
We still assess across our three supplementary programs: CanExport (federal grant up to $50K for SMEs entering new export markets), RTRI / Tariff Relief (recover tariffs paid on imported manufacturing inputs), and IDMTC (17.5% BC credit for interactive digital media studios). One referral, full assessment across all five programs — you earn commission on whichever one fits.
Will you try to sell my client other services?
No. Our written partner agreement includes a non-solicit clause: we don't offer accounting, bookkeeping, tax planning, or T2 prep, and we don't refer your client to anyone who does. We do one thing — government incentive programs — and stay in our lane.
Can the reports be branded with my firm's letterhead?
Yes. We offer white-label delivery on request — your firm's letterhead on the technical narrative, your name on the client portal, your team copied on CRA correspondence. The client experiences these government incentive services as something you offer; we just power the engine.
What if the client gets reviewed or audited by CRA?
We handle it end-to-end at no additional cost to you or the client. That's part of our 99%+ acceptance rate — we never file weak claims because a CRA reversal damages your client relationship as much as ours.
Is there exclusivity? Do I have to send a minimum number of clients?
No to both. Refer one client every two years, or fifty next quarter — the commission terms are the same. We don't believe in exclusivity arrangements because they don't serve your fiduciary duty to your clients.
How quickly do you respond to a new referral?
Within 48 hourswe'll have an eligibility call scheduled with your client. Within 5 business daysthey'll have a written go/no-go assessment across all five programs. If we say no-go, you've lost nothing — and we'll explain exactly why so you can advise the client.
How does commission get paid out?
When CRA (or the relevant program) issues payment to the client, we invoice you for the commission and pay within 30 days. Quarterly reporting summarizes all claims in flight, expected timing, and YTD totals. You can audit any individual file on request.
Do you serve Mandarin/Cantonese clients?
Yes. Our team works in English, 中文 (Mandarin), and 粵語 (Cantonese). Many of our partners are Chinese-Canadian CPA firms whose clients prefer Chinese-language service. Mention your preference in the application notes and we'll match you with the right point of contact.
What sized firms do you partner with?
Anyone from solo CPAs with 50 clients to mid-size firms with 20+ staff. Our typical partner is a 1–10 person firm whose clients include at least a few innovation-adjacent businesses. Larger firms (50+) usually have in-house SR&ED capacity already — but we're happy to partner on the niche programs (EBC, CanExport, IDMTC, RTRI) they don't cover.
